Reviewing SHS 1–8

Featured, SHS 1 to 8

According to the SAHS website, “the Scripture and Hermeneutics Seminar was set up in 1998 to see what could be done to renew interpretation of the Bible as Scripture in the Academy. The Partners in the Scripture and Hermeneutics Project are Bible Society, the University of Gloucestershire (UK), Baylor University (USA), and Redeemer University College (Canada). The Seminar gathers leading Christian scholars from around the world each year at a consultation. They have come from many disciplines, including biblical, theological, philosophical, literary and historical.”

Out of these meetings the seminar has produced a series of volumes, the Scripture & Hermeneutics Series, of which the eighth and final installment has just appeared. In recognition of this achievement we are running a running an eight-part review of SHS 1–8 by Mark Elliott.

Dr Elliott is Lecturer in Church History at St Mary’s College, St Andrews, he has been an organizer and regular contributor to the Scripture & Theology seminar from which this site takes its name, and he has just concluded a season as editor of the European Journal of Theology (EJT), in which his reviews of SHS first appeared.

The reviews will re-appear fortnightly on S&T, on alternating Fridays. Listed by volume title, they are:

Special thanks are in order to Dr Elliott and to Paternoster’s EJT for permission to represent the reviews here (of vols. 1–3 in 2003, and of vols. 4–8 in 2008). We are grateful for the international and inter-confessional work they do.

I have vol. 1- 4. It’s rather slow for the series to shipped over to Singapore. Thank you for providing these helpful reviews here.

No problem, Joshua. We’ve hoped the reviews will be helpful to those of us whose libraries are imperfect, or who have come to SHS later.
